Glycolic acid is derived from sugar cane and is an alpha hydroxy acid. Glycolic acid is the smallest of the fruit acids and is able to penetrate the skin, allowing it to effectively dissolve the 'glue' that holds dead cells together.
WHAT DOES IT DO: Dead skin cells are what cause a dull skin, uneven skin tone, and blackheads and acne. The dissolving action of the glycolic acids allows the dead cells to slough off, leaving behind a smoother skin surface with clearer pores. It also helps stimulate collagen formation under the skin's surface, which helps plump up the skin from beneath, smoothing out fine surface wrinkles and superficial scars.
HOW DO YOU USE IT: The 20 percent glycolic acid face peel is mild solution that's great for all skin types and both beginning and experienced peelers who would like to maintain their results from stronger peels. This peel can be left on for up to 10 minutes, depending on the depth you'd like to peel at.
To use this peel, simply cleanse your skin, set a timer and apply the solution. When time is up, neutralize the peel with our peppermint bar to soothe skin. We include
After you have applied the peel, your skin may be red and "tingle" slightly, this is normal and will fade quickly. You may wear makeup. About two days after the peel, your skin may start to flake and peel slightly. You can encourage peeling by using warm compresses and taking hot showers, but do not pick at the skin! It must come off when it is ready to, not when you are ready for it to. Most people will not have any visible peeling with this product.
We recommend using a our Pure Lotus moisturizer after you peel.
WHY USE A 20 PERCENT GLYCOLIC PEEL: Chemical peels are versatile tools that are used to resurface the upper layers of your skin by loosening the bonds between the dead skin cells that dull your skin, while stimulating the collagen beneath the skin to form and align. This helps plump up any fine lines and scars from below the surface.
WHAT TO EXPECT: There may be some redness and tingling right after the peel, but generally there is not much if any actual peeling (hence the name Lunchtime peel).
OTHER INFORMATION: This is an ideal peel for beginning peelers. After peeling your skin will be feel softer, look smoother, with improved texture and tone and reduced sun damage. With a peel of this strength, a full course of peels (8-10 peels) are needed to see optimal results.
The 20% is very safe when used as directed, but is a strong, professional strength peel (pH 2) and should be used only as directed. As with all products, a patch test is always recommended to see how your skin reacts to the peel.
As with all exfoliating products, the use of sunscreen is essential to obtaining the results you are looking for. If you are not able to commit to using a sunscreen, this is not the treatment you should choose as you will unfortunately just damage your skin all over again.
